The Respect in Sport Parent program was launched by Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta, and the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association has now made this online course mandatory for parents of players in the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association.

The course provides information on a parent’s natural influence over their child, and the role they play in their child’s enjoyment of a sport or activity. The program also provides parents with tools to evaluate their own behavior and help them remember to act appropriately and remember the values of sportsmanship and respect.

Why is this being implemented?

Hockey Edmonton believes that the hockey experience for all involved should be built on a foundation of respect. Respect in Sport helps us promote these values through this simple and convenient on-line tool. The Respect in Sport Parent Program is being implemented to provide an enhanced sport environment for our children.

What do I have to do?

At least one parent of every player must take the course to be able to register your player for hockey in Edmonton next year. The course is conducted entirely online, and will cost $12 for parents and $30 for coaches, bench staff and officials. Instructions and complete information can be found on the EMHA website.

Please note: the course is required for all coaches, trainers and other bench staff, and taking the RiS Coach course does NOT fulfill your requirement as this is considered a separate course.
